My semester is over and I come with a question!
We know Angel likes hockey...

But what team do you think he would root for?

Thinking in a writers' room way, would they have made him a Flyers fan since David Boreanaz is a huge Flyers nut or you think they would have made him go for The Kings (or maybe The Ducks) since that would be the closest team?

What about being a basketball fan? Those games are played indoors and at night. I think he would probably be a Lakers fan, proximity and all. Or again, use DB and have Angel a fan of the 76ers (Oh poor Angelbear, he has suffered enough. At least it's not the Nets right?)

He is just such an alpha male type that I think, in my personal head canon, that he watches Sportscenter every night. He probably never goes to games because of all the people but he totally ordered a sports package from his cable provider.

For basketball, I would love to think he's a Celts fan!
Kellyxlivvielockex on May 13th, 2011 08:32 pm (UTC)
Ooooh yeah. I bet when the Celts play the Lakers, that is when he gets seats. But he gets nosebleed ones so he doesn't have to be around people. He has the vamp vision, he can pay for the cheap seats!

Oh, you know he totally has the sports package. In high-def!

I'd think the Flyers and the Lakers.

But in my head, there's a scenario where Angel, Wesley, Gunn, Spike and Lindsey get together every weekend to do nothing but watch sports. And Angel always roots against the teams Spike and Lindsey root for. Wesley and Gunn always have a bet going on how long it takes for Angel to lose his temper with Spike and Lindsey.

Gunn usually wins.

He probably had to make sure the guys over at the electronics store hooked up his TV and cable though. I can only imagine the frustrated look on his face and then him ripping apart the manual and muttering about demons working for Sony.

But I can totally see Spike rooting against him since he is Spike and likes to torment Angel. I think Angel would genuinely root for Y and Spike would be all about X to piss him off.

Lindsey I think would go for the southern teams so luckily his teams might not play any of the ones that Angel likes until the playoffs. Depends on which conference they fall into (for basketball)

LMAO! That is so true!

You do know why Angel took over Wolfram & Hart, don't you? Court side Lakers tickets.
Kellyxlivvielockex on May 13th, 2011 08:59 pm (UTC)

My best friend and I were talking about this earlier this week (which is what prompted the question) and HE SAID THE EXACT SAME THING! I mean like almost word for word.

Do you have a camera in my house or are you tapping my phone? *shifty eyes*

Not being a sports fan, I thought about it and I think Angel would probably follow a team from New York as he spent so many years there eating rats and probably didn't have much in the way of entertainment? It doesn't really make sense, I know.

He'd be into college football soley for Notre Dame's Fightin' Irish...and when he watches, his accent comes bleeding back in and he needs a pint. The ONLY time he drinks anything other than blood.

He probably never goes to games because of all the people but he totally ordered a sports package from his cable provider.

And Cordy probably bitched him out because the Sports package is totally way too expensive and how was he going to afford her raise if he was wasting all the money on CABLE?? Doesn't he know there are shoes she needs?? *headslap*

Obviously, his hockey team of choice would be the Predators. The name says it all!

Sorry - bat HTML on first try
A while ago, I wrote meta on My Angel the Football Fan, Charles Gunn Sports Fan and AtS Characters fill out NCAA Brackets awhile back. Take with a grain of salt but it was fun to do.

I think they actually had Angel watching a Flyers-Maple Leafs game at one point in S5.

The thing I look at with Angel is that he's been in the US for a hundred years or so - when he started Sport was very different (far more regional, more outdoor daytime sports...)

I think the Angel who spent about 20 years hiding in the sewers would be very surprised and confused to discover the Anaheim Mighty Ducks or the existence of pro Hockey franchises in Phoenix, Dallas and Nashville.

I kind of think Angel would be the guy at Lakers games trying to cozy up to the celebrities but spending the whole time talking about George Mikan (who was the NBAs first really big star for the Minneapolis Lakers)

My Spike, OTOH, only cares about Premier League Football and watches other sports with an eye to drinking, gambling, and pissing Angel off.

Angel spent decades on the east coast - mainly in New York, from what we see in canon. So he's a Rangers fan from way, way back. He likes the Bruins, too, because Boston was close enough that he could go see a game now and then. He hates Montreal with a passion because they dominated the league until the 1970s, and because French is the only language he never mastered. And Spike, having a proper English education, speaks French better than him. So naturally, Spike roots for Montreal - not because he cares about hockey, but just to piss Angel off.

In 1976 Angel became a Flyers fan because Philadelphia had the toughest starting lineup in the league, and he couldn't help but admire their ruthlessness. He's been a Flyers fan ever since.

Although now, he kinda sometimes roots for Pittsburgh, only because he likes Sidney Crosby (a good Nova Scotia boy who spends his millions buying his parents a big house and sending his little sister to hockey school).

I don't really see Angel as much of a basketball fan. He thinks the sport has gotten too flashy and the music they blast between plays annoys him to no end. Plus, unlike hockey, there's not enough fighting.

He does like baseball, though, and rooted for the Brooklyn Dodgers until they moved the team out west. He became a fan again after he set up shop in LA, and during his Wolfram & Hart tenure, he had seats behind the dugout where he would sometimes chat with the players. Occasionally in Spanish.

I think he would be a Boston man whatever the sport, because of the Irish. Despite having forgotten his own Irish accent ;-} he would be a Celtics & Fighting Irish fan all the way.

Can't see him being much of a Baseball man, but I bet he & Faith would have got together to watch the World Series where the Red Sox broke 'The Curse' :-)

And of course it would have been tremendously wicked fun to have Angel wearing a Bruins jersey, given DB's fan affiliation ;-}

Still under Willow & Tara's spell,

Oh he DEFINITELY roots for Notre Dame. No questions asked.

Hockey he's either a Rangers or Blackhawks fan...I think.
Basketball, that man is Celts fan. All the way.

I so see him and Spike watching like Rugby or Football football and TOTALLY getting into it. Like punches are thrown getting into it. ESP. When Ireland and England play each other.

I can't find it online but DB once said in an interview that, of course, Angel was a Flyers fan.
