C/A Quote Goodness
I love my ship. I'm not the only one either. So here are just a sampling of C/A quotes, complied by one of the biggest C/A whores on LJ: nikkiwawa79

-"I did bring her to 'Angel,' because I felt she so kind of contrasted with him. And it would be fun to see them together." ~ David Greenwalt on Cordelia

-"It would be like getting together with your first wife, it would be a nightmare." ~ David Greenwalt on Buffy and Angel

-"If you actually saw these two characters get back together, it would be so different . . . it probably wouldn't even work." ~ David Boreanaz on Buffy and Angel

-"He was, like, 'People move on. You have to move forward all the time' " ~ David Greenwalt talking about Joss? opinion on Cordelia and Angel

"I don't care what people think about it because I know we're doing the right thing," ~ David Greenwalt on C/Aness

-Is Angel going to hook up with Cordy?
"Well, I'm all for it. I don't know what the writers have planned in that regard, but I'm a fan of Charisma's work and I'd love for our characters to be romantically involved. Cordy is really what Angel needs, I believe." ~ David Boreanaz

-"When Joss was first pitching the Angel/Cordelia story, I said, 'No, we can't do that to Buffy!' But then I realised - Cordelia has become a superhero. She's the only person in the show who is Angel's equal. It's not that first-love, Buffy-and-Angel thing. It's a second marriage, it's a more mature thing." ~ David Greenwalt

-"Angel and Cordelia have a mature love between two old souls" ~ Jane Espenson

-"But this is the, the chemistry that's going on between us. Charisma and Angel's character this year is a lot different that what was going on between Angel and Buffy. Their character's a lot more sad - they're deeper angst. Buffy and Angel was this - you know - crush thing going on but this one is a little bit deeper and it's growing and who knows where it's going to take us" ~ David Boreanaz

-"All Cordy's been doing is drooling on Angel's shoulder" ~ David Greenwalt

-"The Cordelia and Angel relationship just appeared out of the scripts" ~ David Greenwalt

-"It's kind of a continuation of last year. Last year Angel found himself with a son - and found himself with a really crappy son. He also found himself falling in love." [With Cordy, of course] ~ Joss Whedon on Season 4, Fall issue of Cinescape

-"Angel. Cordy. Porn music. That's all I'm saying, and I've said too much. Keep watching. You'll love it." ~ Steve DeKnight

-"Angel and Buffy have both moved on. Angel realizes this season that he had moved on from Buffy *before* she died. It's only natural. It was a first love, and that's where it will remain." ~ David Greenwalt, November 13 2001

-"Because with Angel being dark and brooding...we need a big, bright smile." ~ David Greenwalt on Cordelia and Angel

-"I've had experiences or conversations with David Greenwalt where I've said, 'Nobody gets my humour', and then he wrote it in. I didn't even remember that I said that. Then I told him how endearing it was for Angel to say, 'I thought it was funny.' It was a sweet thing between the two characters." ~ Charisma Carpenter on a C/Aness in TSILA

- "Well, Joss Whedon wrote and directed an episode in which Angel and Cordelia sort of fall into each other's arms...I can tell you that we had fun doing those scenes. Charisma and I really had fun during those love scenes..." ~ David Boreanaz on Waiting in the Wings

- How are fans reacting to the relationship between Cordelia and Angel? We've read on message boards that many fans feel like you're being unfaithful to Buffy.
"[That relationship] had a sad ending to it. There was a very deep love there and there was really no end to [that love]. But you have to move on. The relationship with Cordelia is a lot different than the relationship with Buffy was. So it's two different situations. You just let [fans] voice their opinion and it's nice. But when people say they wish [Buffy and Angel] were still together, I tell them if that were the case there wouldn't be any growth for both characters." ~ David Boreanaz YM, Feb. 2003

- "I felt more uncomfortable with Connor, because we haven't had seven years to bond, so I don't know him. And I'm pregnant, so I'm more abundant than usual--there's more to maneuver around. With David, I don't know, it's kind of ironic. It was very comfortable. I was at ease. I think we have great chemistry--we sync up really well. We're there." ~ Charisma Carpenter, Feb. 2003

-"Is it me, or is something dirty happening out of frame? - There is a subtext going on, and I suspect it's less than pure" ~Season 3 dvd commentary by Joss Whedon on episode 3x13, Waiting in the Wings

-"This was, you know, this was an intense day. You know, because there was a lot with the smoochies and with the undressing, and you know, David really went out of his way to make Charisma as comfortable as possible because this isn't something she'd actually done a lot of on my shows. And the two of them were, you know, they handled the whole thing very delicately. We had this beautiful little four walled set, and we kept people out of it and let them do their thing. And they were, well kinda electrifying. " ~ Joss Whedon, Season 3 DVD commentary on Waiting In The Wings

-"Where I really broke into the show, where I really began to understand what it was going to be about, was the scene where they're possessed by the sprit of the old lovers and cannot help themselves, but must get all smoochie. And partially because I thought it was wicked sexy, but also because it was a chance for them to express emotions that they were not in a position to tell each other about yet. So that sequence, which was cut up into many sequences, really represents the heart of the show. It was the thing around which I knew I could build the story." ~ Joss Whedon, Season 3 DVD commentary on Waiting In The Wings

-"The two of them, you know, played both the heat in this and the comedy in the later scenes in here extraordinarily." ~ Joss Whedon, Season 3 DVD commentary on Waiting In The Wings

-"Yes, there was steamy hot sex in the scene before, but clearly not enough for me, so I had to bring them back into it." ~ Joss Whedon, Season 3 DVD commentary on Waiting In The Wings

-"Is it me, or is something dirty happening out of frame, I dunno. You know, first I had that girl floating, during that song in the musical, then I have this. I think, I think there's a subtext going on that's in my work. I haven't figured out what it is, but I suspect it's less than pure." ~ Joss Whedon, Season 3 DVD commentary on Waiting In The Wings

-"I believe this scene, apart from being sexual, is very sexy. I love the two of them in it." ~ Joss Whedon, Season 3 DVD commentary on Waiting In The Wings

-"A lot of people were like well 'How come Angel went crazy with the visions?' and I had to tell them. It's not because he had the visions, it's because he didn't have Cordelia. She's the thing that brings him closer to human.'" ~Mere Smith, Season 3 DVD commentary on Birthday

DUDES!! Angel went down on Cordelia!! It's canon! *squees ad infinitum*

they were, well kinda electrifying.

The awesome thing? He could be talking about C/A or CC/DB. Either way, it works for me. :D:D

Kelly: C/A Steady to Hellxlivvielockex on May 2nd, 2009 05:26 am (UTC)
I think he is totally talking about CC/DB. Just look at them on screen. They totally make the tubes in my tv melt!

And where is that pillow slipped icon of Debs. That is what this post needs. LOL

Finger? Finger? Come on, our boy is better than that. FINGERS! Plural. LOL

That is more foreplay than Buffy got, that is for sure.
thewolfsmoonthewolfsmoon on July 12th, 2015 01:29 am (UTC)
Haha! Out of frame in what scene?
You know I've always taken that moment when he said "It's kinda Hard" as a reference to something unrelated to her demanding that he open the door! ;D
Angel was totally perving for Cordy like the whole episode, the ghost/spell was just getting him out of his shell.

Probably one of the best ships EVER, I think. I hate the 'easy' pairings; I want chemistry, I want drama, I want humour and sarcasm, please!

...I want them to be back.
Kelly: Buffy: Faith's Minexlivvielockex on June 9th, 2009 07:50 pm (UTC)
I am totally there with you. I want the chemistry, the hawtness, the snark. God, I want the snark so bad. I want them being so close, they can tell each other anything.

I want them back too. :(
leobrat: Foulweather Friendsleobrat on May 2nd, 2009 10:42 am (UTC)
Joss seemed to support them so much. Why did he have to give them such a raw deal in the end?
klutzy_girlklutzy_girl on May 2nd, 2009 11:24 am (UTC)
I heard Joss hated Charisma or something like that.
Kelly: Charismaxlivvielockex on June 9th, 2009 07:54 pm (UTC)
He was pissed off because she had the audacity to go and get pregnant without his permission. There are interviews out there where the writers say that they couldn't do the season they wanted to because one of the actresses went and got pregnant. Another writer said that CC told them three days after they broke the season, they hadn't even started writing.

In interviews, CC has said that Joss didn't even let her know that she was fired. She had to find out in the press. She thought she was coming back as Cordelia for S5 and by the time it broke in the press, it was too late for her to get another job.

It was just a whole big ugly situation with a lot of male writers getting huffy cause a woman dared to get pregnant on their show.
sherrilina: Cordy/Angel (Angel)sherrilina on August 27th, 2010 02:27 pm (UTC)
Wasn't his original idea for season 4 something really awful like Cordy actually turning evil? :s. I think I remember reading something like that...in any case, if that was so I'm glad we avoided that!

Joss was such a douche though in the whole thing. "I couldn't think of any place for her story to go?". Um, Xander and other characters on your shows stick around without storylines, and it's so obvious there's plenty left for her character in YW--it has to be the most BS excuse ever! /rolleyes/ And then he didn't even take advantage of her death as an angsty storyline...
thewolfsmoonthewolfsmoon on July 12th, 2015 01:12 am (UTC)
From what I've read it was supposed to be much the same but without Jasmine. The evil entity would still possess Cordelia via a cosmic body hijaking but would remain unidentified and acting through Cordelia rather than manifesting into it's own being. The only way to defeat it would have been for Angel to kill the love of his life.

So you got 'Something really awful' pretty much right but I assume there would have been more dignity and tasteful development.

Well, you know how it is. Even if Joss loves a couple, nobody is allowed any kind of happy ending in the Jossverse. And it didn't help that he took out CC's pregnancy on Cordelia's character and C/A.
klutzy_girlklutzy_girl on May 2nd, 2009 11:24 am (UTC)
Eww, Buffy/Angel. Let it go, shippers.

Of course, I'm still bitter that Cordelia was only mentioned once after "You're Welcome", an episode I still can't watch to this day.
Kelly: Cordy: Fandom Headachexlivvielockex on June 9th, 2009 07:55 pm (UTC)
I think probably you and every other Cordelia fan out there. You're Welcome is a good episode but it would have been nice if the gang grieved just a bit. Just a tiny bit.
thewolfsmoonthewolfsmoon on July 12th, 2015 01:20 am (UTC)
Agreed, it took me a while to even watch the fifth season apart from YW at all and then I just barely got through it with how there was just this utter lack of acknowledgement that she was ever around while Fred's death hung over them for the rest of the season/series. I couldn't help but slightly resent Fred for that as much as I like her (and I hated that she was killed off for its own reason, I'd always been rooting for her and Wes and just when they finally hook up...errrg). The Nina suggestions and the entire episode of 'The Girl in Question' made me want to throw things at my Television set!

There was more than one mention of her after YW though, in 'A Whole in the World' Angel twice relives losing Cordelia while watching Fred slip away into Illeryia.
"I can't lose her. I lost Cordy"
"I lost Cordelia because something violated her! Crawled in and used her up. There's no way in hell am I letting that happen again!"

Then I believe the one you are thinking of is that in 'Power Play' when Angel reveals that Cordy had given him the visions in YW. Not nearly enough though!

There were also two other references made by Connor in 'Origin' and 'Not Fade Away' but he doesn't use her name which is actually the more respectful route in this case since said references were to her Jasmine possessed sicko thing with him in season 4. So not sure they count, what do you think?
Also in 'Origin' when Connor and Wesley get their memories back you actually get quick flashes of Cordy's Jasmine possessed scenes in season 4.

Ohmigosh, I've never heard/read most of these! So much love! It makes me sad that I'm re-watching season four and there's mostly badness to come. I'm totally going to have to go cheer myself up with some fanfiction.

AMAZING QUOTES! :)

I never tire of those lovelies. Cangel PAWNS Bangel, even the writers thought so.

And Joss comment on his work's "subtext" always cracks me up because it's SO true, LOL.

LOVE. Absolute. LOVE! Where'd most of the quotes from Charisma, David and Greenwalt come from? Commentaries? Interviews?
Kelly: C/A Animated lovexlivvielockex on June 9th, 2009 08:01 pm (UTC)
I think a lot of them came from interviews and then commentaries on the DVD. I don't know if Nikki has the sources but I know a lot of the Joss stuff is from commentaries so I would assume that is where the Greenwalt stuff came from. I haven't done a rewatch with commentary in so so so so long. The David and Charisma stuff, that is 99.99% sure from interviews.

Lol, I just saw your link to this post in your user info, and I thought it'd be show quotes, but these are awesome too! :D. I love David Greenwalt so much, and am forever grateful to him for Cangel (and Josef on "Moonlight" but that's another subject). I like quotes like these that show many people working on the show, DB included (despite some other contradictory quotes), did support and like Cangel.

Mere Smith's quote here might be my fave, though Birthday is also my favorite epp! :) But it does show what Angel and Cordy mean to one another so beautifully...

Man, I miss this ship soooooo bad! They're my OTP and these quotes are just made of gold!

thewolfsmoonthewolfsmoon on November 8th, 2014 07:56 am (UTC)
These are so amazing, thank for you for sharing them and these three in particular express exactly how I feel!

"If you actually saw these two characters get back together, it would be so different . . . it probably wouldn't even work." ~ David Boreanaz on Buffy and Angel

"When Joss was first pitching the Angel/Cordelia story, I said, 'No, we can't do that to Buffy!' But then I realised - Cordelia has become a superhero. She's the only person in the show who is Angel's equal. It's not that first-love, Buffy-and-Angel thing. It's a second marriage, it's a more mature thing." ~ David Greenwalt

Cordelia/Angel FTW! It's tragic how Television doesn't really have couples like them anymore, who are done right.
For me, there's gotta be development, a friendship and a bond, there's no other way and Angel/Buffy didn't have any of that.
Between the two I'd say it was his feelings for Cordy that he understood more since they developed over time and came more naturally.
These quotes prove that to be the case since they clarify that it's what the writers and producers were going for.

As if what happened to Cordy didn't piss me off on it's own, I just barely got through season five with how there was such an utter lack of acknowledgment that she was ever there both prior to and after YW. The suggestions with Nina and that whole Rome episode made me want to throw things at my television set and I actually had to resent Fred as much as I like her for how much weight and emotion followed her death for the entire span of the rest of the season/series while Cordy got next to nothing! Though I do appreciate that most of her few mentions come from Angel himself.
To be honest that was pretty much the only thing lacking from the season, it was actually pretty good. If they'd just given Cordy more of a presence in memory, primarily in Angel's I actually would have been satisfied with it.
