30 Days of TV Meme - Day 14

Jim Profit from Profit

In my entire life thus far, I have only campaigned to save two shows. Profit and Legend of the Seeker. It was a show that I still believe was too ahead of it's time to be a good ratings grab. It was like Patrick Bateman brought to life, only with less hookers, and more backstory. We never get but hints of why Bateman is a psychopath, with Profit, we see how Jim Profit became the twisted individual he is.

David Greenwalt (of Angel and Buffy fame) created Jim Profit and with the help of tv heavyweights like Stephen Cannell (most famous for The A-Team) and John McNamara (Lois and Clark, Jericho, In Plain Sight), he brought this dark and twisted character to the screen. I know James Marsters confirmed that Angel was Greenwalt's idea but if you watch Profit, it's SO easy to see where Angel's beige period came from as well as Angelus' bloody past.

(And if you do decide to watch Profit, look out for Keith Szarabajka (Holtz). You won't recognize his voice at all. LOL)

OMG Profit, that show gave (tween) me nightmares for months. <3

Discovering that Greenwalt created it was one of the main reasons I even gave Angel a chance.

That is actually why I gave Buffy a shot to begin with. In working on the Save Profit campaign, Greenwalt's people were incredibly nice and supportive. It's rare to have those kind of experiences.

And he loves Charisma so...whatever he puts out there, I'm going to watch. Miracles is another great Greenwalt production that was ended too soon. I know how much you love Carnivale so I think Miracles is right up your alley.

Profit was a brilliant show, and you're right about it being before it's time. That's what hurts so much about it's cancellation. It could be a total hit for Showtime or HBO today.

Oh they could have gone so so dark on HBO or Showtime. I mean, really show more of his psychosis. I would have loved that!

Oh, that reminds me that I meant to give that show a look! *puts back on list*

It's a short season so it goes really fast. Let me know what you think when you do watch it.

I loved Profit and was bitterly disappointed that it was canceled. Remembering the show, it's really easy to see where Angel originated, and it sucks that such potentional went to waste. *sigh*

I still remember that shot of him going to sleep in the cardboard box.

Profit is how I judge all my psychopaths. LOL I mean, there was NOTHING redeeming about him and that wasn't done. It still isn't in realms of humans in tv. I mean, even Dexter can evoke empathy through his relationship with Rita and her kids. But Profit, nope. He is a soulless bastard in every sense.

Guh! Surprise!Pasdar right when I clicked your cut. mmm.

Looks like I have to check this out, if I can get my hands on it anywhere. Pity there's so little of it to go around as it is. Though-- Fox, huh. Let me show you the overwhelming immensity of my surprise.

If you have some extra stratch, it used to be very cheap on Amazon. I bet there is even some used for like a penny.

Fox never lets the good shows get any kind of footing or audience. Such a shame.
